The DeVos Family’s Fight for Education

The DeVos family is one of the most prominent and well respected families in the United States. This family has resided in Western Michigan and is known for building and developing Amway Corporation (the family business). This family is not only an intelligent family, but is also a family that has contributed millions of dollars to organizations and foundations within the United States. This family, with an estimated worth of over $5 billion, has donated a considerable amount to local as well as national organizations that have plans to reform current issues. The DeVos family is a family that is proud to serve their community.

Of the many different charities to contribute to, the DeVos family believes that one of the best ways to improve a community is through promoting education reforms. In the DeVos’ opinion, education is what helps others learn how to improve themselves rather than being given improvement. Educational reforms not only help young adults learn to think outside of the box, but it also helps to promote innovation which is the leading way to bring any community out of poverty. As the currently leader of the family, Dick and Betsy DeVos have plans to continue to support their community through educational reforms.

Dick and Betsy DeVos have been involved in activism ever since the 1980s. The involvement within the community began when the DeVos family began to support the low-income families at a private school in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Though this has helped the community considerably, Mr. and Mrs. DeVos have admitted that creating these reforms has been an uphill battle. The couple has learned that this battle that they fight for education is not an instant victory, but instead is a generational victory. Though Dick and Betsy admit that getting involved can be intimidating, they have been nothing but happy with the noticeable improvement of their community.

Though many would give up on education reform, the DeVos family continues to fight. Their overall goal is to allow anyone to pursue a higher level education that is based upon merit and not based upon income. In the DeVos’ opinion, those who show potential should not be shunned by those with more family income. With that said, the DeVos family continues to raise money as well as build new charter schools for students across the United States. Though it is an uphill battle, the DeVos family is happy to fight for education.
